The market town of Killaloe is set on the banks of the Shannon. Narrow bustling streets overlook a 13th-century cathedral and close by, tranquil Lough Derg offers the chance to fish or sail. Killaloe is an ideal base for exploring the region.
Day One
Upon landing in Dublin, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. The journey time is approximately 2 1/2 hours from Dublin Airport. Throughout the holiday, our Tour Manager will be on hand to help you get the very most from your stay.
Day Two
After breakfast, we board the coach for our included, full-day excursion. Our first stop will be Galway, picturesquely situated on the north-eastern end of the Bay. Shop, sightsee and have lunch (payable locally) in this lively and historic city, before heading south to the awesome Cliffs of Moher, and then on across the unusual landscape of the Burren, with its caves and underground streams.
Day Three
The morning is free for you to rest and relax in and around the resort. In the afternoon, many will want to join our optional excursion to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, for a taste of rural Irish life. The 15th-century castle is the most complete medieval fortress in Ireland, and has been carefully restored to its former splendour.
Day Four
This morning, enjoy our included excursion to Lough Derg: a leisurely drive on narrow roads through villages where life goes on unchanged by the 21st Century, and where there's always a glimpse of the lake to savour against the mountain backdrop. The afternoon is free for you to relax and enjoy.
Day Five
Today's final optional excursion takes us to the charming city of Limerick and the picturesque village of Adare. Ireland's third city, Limerick is a treat of museums, ancient castles and cathedrals, where the 'craic' can be found in the many bars and restaurants.
Our second stop, Adare, is regarded as Ireland's prettiest village. Take a relaxing stroll admiring the thatched cottages that line the streets, perhaps taking a break in a local tea house or pub.
Day Six
We leave our hotel today, and head to the airport for the flight home, taking with us some spectacular memories of the truly wonderful Emerald Isle.
Wining and dining
Hearty and tasty Irish cuisine - traditional potato cakes, soups and stews, as well as regional specialities such as oysters, prawns and wild salmon - can be enjoyed everywhere. You'll find a selection of international wines in most restaurants, and plenty of 'the black stuff' and Irish whiskies in all the nearby pubs.
